Ingredients

1.5 part EFFEN Cucumber Vodka

0.75 parts Freshly squeezed lime juice

0.5 parts Maraschino liqueur

4 fresh kiwi wheels, peeled

2 spoons of sugar

1 kiwi wheel with skin on

0.75 oz Freshly squeezed lime juice

25 ml Freshly squeezed lime juice

15 ml Maraschino liqueur

Add the rest of the ingredients and shake vigorously for 7-8 seconds

Leaving the mix unstrained, pour into a rocks or old-fashioned lowball glass. Garnish with a kiwi wheel

We created this kiwi cocktail with EFFEN Cucumber Vodka as the super crisp base. Beyond smooth in texture it makes the ideal backdrop for the Maraschino liqueur. Distilled from Marasca cherries (aka Morello cherries) it has an inimitable sour taste that’s bitter, yet balanced. Zesty kiwi keeps everything in check and affirms its identity as a summer cooler. Muddling is a pro mixologist’s term. In short it means to crush fruit, sugar or herbs (like the kiwi fruit in this Cucumber Sweet and Sour recipe) to intensify flavors and help them mix more easily with alcohol. The key here is to use a sturdy glass or cocktail shaker and press down firmly on the ingredients with the muddler, using a twisting motion. When muddling herbs go easy on them; a heavy hand will kill the flavor.
